FAQ

WHAT ARE THE CRITERIA FOR WINES TO BE INCLUDED IN SLOW WINE USA?

Wineries must meet the guidelines of “good, clean, fair.”

Slow Wine Guide USA features only wines that producers have verified are herbicide-free. However, we do not verify that all the wines a producer makes meet this standard.

Data on viticultural and ecological practices were provided by the producers.

ARE ALL THE WINES IN SLOW WINE GUIDE CERTIFIED ORGANIC?

No, though many are.

DOES SLOW WINE RATE WINES USING POINTS?

No. Slow Wine prefers to recognize excellence in wines and in wineries by giving awards. There are three types of wine awards and three types of winery awards.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT WINE AWARDS?

The three types of wine awards are:

Everyday Wine

A top wine retailing up to $30.

Top Wine

The finest bottles from a sensory point of view.

Slow Wine

A wine that, beyond outstanding sensory quality, demonstrates terroir-related values such as history and identity, as well as offering good value for money. The attribution of this accolade implies the absence of any chemical herbicide in the vineyard. The Slow Wine accolade also consider values for money, taking into account the time and place of production.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT WINERY AWARDS?

The three types of winery awards are:

Bottle

Awarded to wineries whose bottles represent excellent average quality.

Bottles may fit many, but not all, of the criteria of the Manifesto. Wineries that buy grapes from conventionally farmed vineyards would be classified as a Bottle. Wineries whose wines are very expensive may be classified as a Bottle, rather than a Snail.

Coin

Awarded to wineries whose bottles are good value for money.

Snail

Awarded to winery Slow Wine recognizes for the way it interprets Slow Food values (sensory perceptions, territory, environment, identity) and also offers good value for money.
